One of London’s oldest restaurants, Simpson’s in the Strand is working in collaboration with Sussex drinks producers Ridgeview Wine Estate and Blackdown Distillery.
Simpson’s of the Savoy closed its doors earlier in the year for the first time since 1903 for a respectful restoration to begin a new chapter in the history. As a part of the redesign brief was to highlight the 189 years of history and celebrate Englishness whilst to appealing to a new generation. The choice to include award winning Sussex drinks producers Ridgeview and Blackdown was a major part of the brief, celebrating the new generation of quality drinks producers.
The Simpson’s food and beverage team is now led by General Manager Anne Lomas, who was adamant to include Sussex Drinks Producers Ridgeview and Blackdown as their exclusive house sparkling wines and gin. Anne has previous worked at Roast Restaurant and the Shangri-La at the Shard where she came across English wines. For Anne, it was an obvious choice that as a testament of how far the English drinks producers have progressed in quality over the last 10 years that they now take pride of place in the iconic restaurant.
Simpson’s sparkling wine is now Ridgeview’s pinot dominant blend Ridgeview Cavendish 2014 with a bespoke Simpson’s label. The Robert’s family of Ridgeview are incredibly proud to be working with Simpson’s. “We could not think of a better fit for our Sussex sparkling wine than to be used in celebrations at the wonderfully iconic English institution of Simpson’s. It is a great honour and reward for our brand progression over the last decade.” said Ridgeview Marketing and Communications Director Mardi Roberts.
Sussex distillery Blackdown have created a bespoke ‘Old Tom Gin ’ exclusively for Simpson’s.
“The opportunity for Blackdown to create a bespoke gin for Simpsons has been amazing. To know our gin is being used to create beautifully crafted cocktails in one of the best bars and hotels in the world is a proud moment for all of the Blackdown team,” said Sarah Thompson, founder and head distiller of Blackdown Distillery.
