Hotel du Vin in Ship Street, Brighton, welcomed the first release of Beaujolais Nouveau to Sussex. Every year on the third Thursday of November, the wine producers of the Beaujolais region in France collectively release their first pressing of the gamay grape – the vin de primeur – which is fermented for just a few weeks before bottles are rushed around the world for Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
Hotel du Vin’s head sommelier Robin Roux said “We’re proud to have the first of the 2016 vintage in the bistro and bar today. It’s a stunning wine – fresh and really fruit-filled – so great as an aperitif or to accompany charcuterie and cheese”.
The team at Hotel du Vin were joined by patrons and sponsors of the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival for a traditional French supper of Coq au Vin and Navarin of Lamb to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
