22nd October 2013 at Hotel du Vin

Catena, has over100 years and four generations in Argentine wine. Nicola Catena planted his first Malbec vineyards in Mendoza in 1902. Originally a blending grape in Bordeaux, Nicola was convinced that it would thrive in the Argentine Andes. Fast forward sixty years and Nichola’s grandson Nicholas takes the reins. His idea to plant vines at higher altitudes in the Andes enabled him to produce wines with amazing aromas, flavours and tannins. In 2009 his pioneering work was honoured when he was named Decanter’s Man of The Year, following in the footsteps of legends such as Robert Mondavi, Miguel Torres and Anthony Barton.
