Over a dozen bars from across the city participated in this year’s Mini Mix Off competiton on Saturday 30 March 2013 hosted by Mixology Group and sponsored by Monkey Shoulder whisky, with the help of the Brighton Bartenders Association.
Participanting bars – including Lucky Voice, the Brewery Tap, The Waterhouse at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, The Grand, Holiday Inn and myhotel – took to the Live Food Show stage and produced a cocktail on the theme of ‘decadence’… well we were in the shadow of the Royal Pavilion, one-time home of the very decadent Prince Regent in the 1800s.
The competition was tough and our expert panel of judges including Live Food Show host and local food writer Andrew Kay, Henry Butler of Butlers Wine and mixologist extraordinaire Myles Cunliffe, sampled and scored over the course of an hour before a live audience of foodies.
The winner was the ‘Clean Slate’ – a sour twist – served in a dry ice tea pot with Lady Grey tea, honey and spice aroma, made by the team from Bohemia.
Second place went to Bar Valentino with their combination of Monkey Shoulder and Plymouth Sloe gin, whilst the runner-up was Brighton Rocks with a Monkey Shoulder cocktail spiced with Seville marmalade.
“The standard of entries this year was particularly high”, said Live Food Show host Andrew Kay.
“Its great to see so many of our exciting bars and venues taking part in the Mini Mix Off, and thanks to the team from Mixology for co-ordinating, and to our sponsors at Monkey Shoulder for their support”.
The Brighton Mix Off will return in the Autumn Harvest – more details online shortly.
