Chef Rob Carr of Hotel du Vin Brighton created a five course Sussex supper in Rotterdam on Thursday 10 October as part of the International Chef Exchange.
The supper was hosted at Hotel Quartier du Port in the historic docks of Rotterdam, and was the return leg of the exchange which saw chef Pepijn Schmeink of Restaurant Eendracht prepare a South Holland regional meal during the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival’s Autumn Harvest in early September.
The meal featured Southdown lamb, cheeses from High Weald Dairy, and a traditional Sussex Pond Pudding, accompanied by Blackdown Sussex gin and elderberry port, Hepworth & Co Sussex beer, and Ridgeview Wine Estate Grosvenor and Knightsbridge sparkling wines presented by Mardi Roberts from the vineyard.
Guests included press from Holland, France and the UK, top chefs and sommeliers, and representatives from the Netherlands including Rotterdam Marketing & Festivals and Port of Rotterdam authority.
“It’s been a pleasure returning to Holland again for another International Chef Exchange”, said food festival director, Nick Mosley.
“Chef Rob Carr has not only shown the quality of food and culinary skills at Hotel du Vin. He’s also created a menu of world-class Sussex produce.”
“International Chef Exchange puts Brighton & Hove and Sussex on the world food map on every level”.
International Chef Exchange is an initiative run by the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival team to promote food tourism, encourage international trade and share best practice within the food and hospitality industries.
